About the Training
As a clinical psychologist I have watched women caught in the revolving door of drug treatment and child welfare. Court orders demand that women “get clean” before their children can be returned to their care; DFCS demands they get jobs and stable homes before they can be released from intensive scrutiny. After watching woman after woman fail in traditional programs, I wondered what would happen if a program was designed to treat women, instead of addicts? Thus was launched PARTNERS.
In this workshop participants will learn:
· What drives women to addiction
· What maintains addiction and makes recovery so difficult
· Why men's programs colored pink don't work
· What women really need in a treatment program
· The role of trauma in addiction and recovery
· A user friendly model for helping women that can be used within the structure of a traditional treatment program
How to prevent direct service staff from becoming cynical and burned out while helping them to encourage and empower women
