About the Training
This training will provide an overview of Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to mental health professionals who provide therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and supportive non-offending caregivers. This training is also valuable for professionals working in child placement agencies who often work with children and adolescents who have histories of trauma. Attendees will leave this training with a detailed understanding of TF-CBT, handouts to help facilitate treatment, and additional resources. In addition, participants will learn how to provide this treatment in and outpatient and in-home settings.
Trauma Focused – CBT is an empirically supported treatment which has proven efficacious in treating children, adolescents, and non-offending caregivers who have experienced forms of abuse and trauma. Research indicates that TF-CBT is effective in treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and behavioral problems (including sexual behavior problems) in children exposed to traumatic events. TF-CBT has been deemed “Best Practice” by Kaufman Best Practices Final Report, sponsored by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and has been named a Model Program by the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. TF-CBT has several components that include psychoeducation, stress management, affect expression and modulation, cognitive coping, creating a trauma narrative, cognitive processing, behavior management training, and parent-child sessions.
